Matteo Caravani

Social Protection Specialist
Dr. Matteo Caravani is a political economist graduated from the faculty of Economics, University of Rome "La Sapienza" and he was awarded a PhD in Development Studies at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) University of Sussex, in Brighton. He worked as Social Protection Policy Specialist for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) both in Uganda and in Tanzania, he was a Postdoc Fellow at the Makerere Institute for Social Research (MISR) in Uganda where he taught the History of Economic Taught and the Agrarian Question in Modern History. He also carried out several social protection evaluations on behalf of the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) in Palestine, Development Pathways, Overseas Development Institute (ODI) and the IDS. He is an affiliate at the IDS and at the London School of Economics. Overall, his research interests include social change, agrarian transformation and social protection in Sub-Saharan Africa.
