Christopher Turton has been working in the humanitarian and development sector for over a decade. He originally began working for the World Wildlife Fund to help address the illegal international wildlife trade, before moving to UNDP to support programmes that bring sustainable energy services to the poor. Since 2013 Chris has been working with both the World Food Programme and UNICEF to assist governments to improve national social assistance programmes and to manage cash-based transfer programmes in emergencies. His work has included managing field operations for cash programmes during the Syrian refugee crisis, advising on the establishment of the foundational components of social assistance programmes in Somalia, and supporting national shock-responsive social protection during past hurricane and COVID-19 responses across the Eastern Caribbean and South Asia.
