Renata Nowak-Garmer is UNDP Africa Employment and Social Protection Specialist. In this role, she provides technical advisory to countries and regional institutions and develops regional and global policy and tools. She led The State of Social Assistance in Africa, a publication and data project and is currently leading a project aimed at strengthening community-based social protection mechanisms in five African countries. In her previous position, Renata focused on youth employment and social inclusion. Before joining UNDP, Renata worked at a foundation that fights xenophobia and promotes intercultural dialogue. Renata holds an MA degree in German Philology from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, and a Master’s Degree (MIA) in Economic and Political Development from Columbia University, New York where she was a Harriman Fellow. She also earned the Harriman Certificate in post-Soviet studies from Columbia University. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Social Policy and Research at the Bath University, UK.
